Tenants don't need to contact us when they move in or out. The property owner or authorised agent is responsible for providing these details.
You do need to confirm with the property owner or their agent that the water meter will be read at the property you are vacating and at the property you are moving to. This will ensure that you are only charged for the water that you use. Meter readings at the beginning and end of each tenancy enable the property owner or agent to determine the volume of water used by each tenant and bill them correctly.
Pensioners need to reapply for a water use concession if moving into a privately owned property. Call us on 1300 659 951. If you are moving into a property owned by the Department of Housing and Works, please speak to your Accommodation Manager regarding your water use concession.
We do not disconnect the water supply when a property is vacated, so water will be available to you at any property you move to.
While we are happy to issue the accounts to the tenant, this is only as a courtesy to the owner. However, even when we do have a tenant registered on the account, the property owner is responsible for all the charges.
What you pay and how you pay will depend on your lease arrangements. Check with your real estate agent or landlord about your responsibilities and obligations.

When selling or buying a property we will be informed of the sale or purchase details by the settlement agent. The settlement agent will also organise a final water meter reading on your behalf.
You do not need to inform us unless your contact details have changed.
