How can you do this?

Why we acted

It is important to educate students to be mindful of how we use water, even when you’re not the one paying the bill.

Kathy Anketell, Carbon Neutral Project Officer

Unable to find a reason for a gradual but persistent increase in water use over a 5 month period, our Carbon Neutral Project Officer, Kathy, convinced the school it was time to install an energy, gas and water monitoring system.

How we did it

We installed several sub-meters, which help us monitor water use around the school. When we see a spike in water use on the building monitoring system, we can check the sub-meters to quickly identify and isolate the problem.

  • Waterless urinals
  • WELS 4 star dual flush toilets

  • Reducing lawn area
  • Choosing native plants

Behaviour change

Establishing a culture of sustainability among staff and students.

What we are doing now

Our next initiative is to fit flow restricting devices to taps used for hand washing, as a cheap way to save water.
