Yanchep is supplied with water from local bores. It is important that the Yanchep community continue to reduce water use, especially during the peak summer period.
Around 90% of water supplied to Yanchep is used by households.
When the weather is hot water use doubles, which is why it is important to be waterwise.
Our customers in Yanchep are supplied by 2 local bores, which, due to significant growth in the area, operate at near capacity during peak demand periods.
We are considering options to increase local water supply and we have contingency water sources in place that will be used in demand exceeds supply.
What are we doing to reduce water use in Yanchep?
All properties in Yanchep will soon be able to access real-time water use information from their smart water meter.
The meters have been installed and we are building the infrastructure that will collect and share the data through your My Water account.
A smart meter records water use by the hour and provides information on how and when water is used in and around the home. A smart water meter can help detect leaks, monitor usage lead to saved water and costs.
We will let our Yanchep customers know when they can start seeing their hourly water use data. In the meantime you can monitor your water use by reading your water meter.

One of the most common reasons for high water use during the warmer months is increased garden watering.

Contingency water supply
In 2016 we built a pipeline that connects Yanchep to Perth's water supply. If demand exceeds supply, this contingency pipeline can be used to top up Yanchep’s water supply.
We are also considering options to increase local water supply and will share these plans with you as they are developed.
We supply water that meets Australian Drinking Water Guidelines. Unlike the Yanchep local supply, Perth's water supply is fluoridated. This means that should Yanchep’s water be supplemented, an incidental amount of fluoride will be added to the supply.
Water fluoridation in WA is administered by Department of Health and is regulated by an Act of Parliament. The Department of Health has announced that Yanchep’s water supply will be fluoridated from December 2017. For more information on fluoride please visit the Department of Health website.
