A clumping, perennial plant from South Africa. Foliage is usually dark green and strap like while the flowering stems are stout and hold the clustered flowers well above the leaves.
Cultivars include 'John Benary' (fine leaves, orange flower), 'Little Maid' (dwarf to only 60 cm high), 'Percy's Pride' (smaller plant, lemon yellow flowers) and 'Winter Cheer' (early blooms).
