A highly ornamental, sprawling, small tree or medium shrub. The branch ends are silver-grey and carry large, clasping, silver-grey leaves. Very large, red flowers are produced on short stems at almost any time of year. Yellow and pink flowered forms are also known. Bird attractant. Usually necessary to prune to shape. Susceptible to attack by leaf-eating caterpillars and a sooty mould fungus.
