Ellenbrook to Wangara wastewater pipeline
Project goal:
We are upgrading the wastewater infrastructure to cater for the continued growth within the City of Swan and City of Wanneroo.
Type of project:
New wastewater pipeline
This project is part of the City of Swan water upgrades
Status:
In construction
Delivery Date:
December 2025
What’s happening?
We are installing a 6 km of single wastewater pipeline and 8.2 km of dual wastewater pipeline to cater for the continued growth within the City of Swan and City of Wanneroo.
Where is this happening?
This pipeline will extend from the existing Barrambie Way wastewater pump station in Henley Brook and connect to the existing wastewater network in Madeley. Please refer to the project map for the location of the pipeline.
When is this taking place?
Construction is planned to commence mid-August and is estimated for completion in late 2025.
How will this impact the community?
As with any construction activities there will be an increase in noise, dust and activity in the area. There will also be temporary impacts to roads, verges and pedestrian paths.
We will keep the community updated as the project progresses and be in touch before construction commences in your area.
As a short section of the pipeline will be installed through the Gnangara Pines. We have worked closely with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), the City of Swan and our environmental team, to minimise any potential impact to the area during and after construction.
We follow a thorough reinstatement process to ensure all impacted areas are replaced like for like, where practically possible. We will also work closely with the City of Swan, City of Wanneroo, businesses and residents to ensure all reinstatements are carried out to an acceptable and high standard.
Work near Hartman Drive - November 2024
What is happening?
We have recently completed micro tunnelling to install an underground sleeve on Inspiration Drive, at the intersection of Hartman Drive. Using the underground sleeve, we will now be commencing work to install wastewater pipes beneath Hartman Drive.
To ensure a safe work area for our crew and the community while pipes are being installed, the eastbound lane on Inspiration Drive will be closed between Hartman Drive and Excellence Drive.
When is this happening?
The installation of these wastewater pipes is scheduled to commence on Monday, 18 November 2024 and is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.
Work will be completed Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm, and Saturdays as required. To minimise disruptions during business operating hours, we may complete some night and weekend works. We will notify you again if we are required to work outside of normal working hours.
What to expect during construction:
- Temporary road, verge, and footpath closures: Traffic management and personnel will be onsite to safely redirect traffic. Please see below for a map of the detour route.
- Construction and noise: There may be a temporary increase in construction noise, dust, and activity in the area.
- Restoration of impacted areas: All areas impacted by the work will be returned as close to their original condition as possible.

Stages of work - October 2024
Our authorised contractor, Civcon, have commenced construction of the Ellenbrook to Wangara waster water pipeline on Inspiration Drive. Work on Inspiration Drive has started near the Vision Street intersection, heading west towards Excellence Drive.
Work on Inspiration Drive is being completed sequentially, in 4 separate stages. This approach was selected to support local businesses by maintaining access for as long as possible and minimising disruption to the community.
Stages:
- Stage 1: Vision St to Callaway St
- Stage 2: Callaway St to Creative St
- Stage 3: Creative St to Conquest Way
- Stage 4: Conquest Way to Excellence Dr
Reinstatements
This work will involve impacts to the road, footpaths, driveways and verges along where we are installing the pipe. We will contact residents directly before undertaking work in front of their properties and these areas will be reinstated as closely as possible to their original condition.
Each stage will be fully reinstated as close to its original condition as possible before moving on to the next stage. Impacted areas will be temporarily reinstated during construction, with final reinstatement work being completed upon completion of each stage.
Start of construction - October 2024
Construction of the Ellenbrook to Wangara wastewater pipeline is progressing well. Construction work on Inspiration Drive and tunnelling beneath Hartman Drive in Wangara is scheduled to commence in approximately one week.
Micro-tunnelling will be used to construct beneath Hartman Drive. This method ensures the road can remain open with no traffic disruptions.
During construction on Inspiration Drive, the westbound lane will be closed to allow us to install the underground pipeline safely. We will excavate along Inspiration Drive in a staged approach, starting near the Vision Street intersection and continuing west. Find a map of the Inspiration Drive detour route below.
Upcoming construction - November 2024
What is happening?
Work will soon commence work on Priest Road and Pollino Gardens. For the safety of our crew and the community, there will be no east-bound traffic on Pollino Gardens in the direction of Gnangara Road during this time. Traffic management will redirect traffic through Firmstone Circle to maintain flow.
- Pollino Gardens: One lane will be closed and converted into a single lane road.
- Firmstone Circle: A temporary road access connection between Pollino Gardens and Firmstone Circle will be created by removing the verge area that currently separates these 2 roads.
- Priest Road: During construction on Priest Road between Gnangara Road and Pollino Gardens, there will be no entry or exit to Gnangara Road. Alternate access can be found via Southmead Drive or Coverwood Promenade.
When is this happening?
Work on Priest Road and Pollino Gardens is expected to commence in the next 1-2 months. Once we receive a confirmed start date, we will let you know. The expected duration of this work is approximately 4-6 weeks.
How will this impact me?
- Noise and dust: Noise and dust will be kept to a minimum however, construction will involve road cutting, excavating, and compacting.
- Traffic flow: Traffic will be directed through Firmstone Circle to maintain traffic flow for the area.
- Work hours: Work will be completed Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, and Saturdays as required. We will notify you again if we are required to work outside of these hours.
- Restoration of impacted areas: All areas impacted by the work, including verges and footpaths, will be returned to as close to their original condition as possible. The temporary road access connection between Firmstone Circle and Pollino Gardens will be removed and reinstated.
