Usually a compact, low shrub to 1.5 metres high and wide with large thick leaves and very large terminal flowerheads in spring and summer. Responds well to pruning for cut flowers.
Cultivars include 'Mini King' (to 1 m high and wide) and 'White King' (white flowered form). This plant may only be available at specialist nurseries.

Warning: These plants, like other members of the Protea family, should not be given fertilisers that contain phosphorous.
