A tough succulent that is almost drought-tolerant when established. A mostly upright habit, decorative leaves and showy flower clusters in late spring or summer. Needs a sunny position protected from strong wind. Excellent container plant. Cultivars include 'Atropurpureum' (copper tinged foliage), 'Short Black' (dwarf form with dark bronze foliage) and 'Zwartkop' (dark bronze foliage).

Not recommended for planting near bushland.
